Manage and sort blocks on page or post

You can quickly build your post (page, news or other type) and manage your content with the content block section. The drag-en-drop feature allows you to easily arrange your content. With the block tools in the upper right corner of each block, you can adjust and manage settings, duplicate, add or delete content blocks, and create an overview by collapsing all content blocks.

Follow the steps below to discover all possibilities within the content block section:

1. Go to a content block section

To start this tutorial, we first need to go to a location in the cms that has a content block section. Each post type (news, pages, etc.) Has its own content block section (news blocks, page blocks, etc.). So to start editing a content block section, we first need to create a post:

  • Click the post type ‘pages’ in the side menu.
  • Click ‘add new’

  • Hover over the newly added page in the list
  • The name will be (no title) – Draft
  • Click ‘edit’

2. Insert a new content block with the button

Open the section ‘page blocks’ by clicking the arrow in the right corner of the section. This is the content block section for the post type ‘pages’. Click ‘insert block’ and select the content block you need from the drop-down menu.

3. Add a layout

Another way to add new blocks is through the block tools in the right corner of each content block. This way you don’t have to scroll down to click the button ‘insert block’. Very handy when you’re editing a big page with a lot of content.

• Hover over the content block toolbar to see all the block tools.
• Click the plus icon (add layout) and choose the content block you need from the drop-down menu.

4. Open the block editor

To edit content blocks, you need to unfold them to see all the specific options. Hover over the block toolbar and click the arrow (toggle control) to unfold the block editor. Notice the arrow now points upwards. Click it again to hide the block editor.

5. Adjust block settings

Besides the actual content of a block, you can also adjust the settings of a content block settings via the settings panel. Hover over the block toolbar and click the gear icon (settings control) to open the settings panel. Learn more about the settings panel.

6. Duplicate a layout

With the block tools you can also duplicate a block. This includes the content and settings you made for that particular block. This comes in handy, when you want to make small changes or when you want to compare two versions in the preview. Hover over the block toolbar and click the duplicate icon (duplicate layout control).

7. Adjust the order of the content blocks

You can easily adjust the order of the content blocks via the drag-and-drop functionality. Click and hold the content block toolbar. Drag it to the desired position and drop it there. Notice that the numbering of the content blocks changes automatically.

8. Delete a content block

To delete a content block, hover over the block toolbar of a content block and click the minus icon (remove layout control).
